Lane line
Are lane lines important for the theory test and the practical driving test?
Yes, lane lines are one of the most central road markings you will find on the road, since they show the boundary between lanes and help the driver understand the flow of traffic.
Lane lines are markings on the road that indicate the boundary between lanes. They permit crossing in accordance with the applicable traffic regulations. These lines, which are usually short stripes separated by long gaps, come in yellow or white.
Yellow lane lines indicate that the vehicles in the adjacent lanes are moving in opposite directions. This increases the need for caution, especially when overtaking, since oncoming traffic is closer than on roads where all lanes go the same way.
White lines: White lane lines mean that traffic in the separated lanes flows in the same direction. This commonly occurs on motorways and multi-lane roads where all lanes go the same way.
Example of white lane lines

In this image, where the lane line is white, you can see that the vehicles on both sides of the line are moving in the same direction. The image was taken on a motorway with two lanes in each direction.
Example of yellow lane lines

In this image we see a yellow lane line. Here the vehicles on each side of the line are driving in opposite directions. This requires extra attention, especially since overtaking also takes place against the direction of travel, and you may need to make extra room for safety when distances between vehicles are short.
