Heavy-traffic lane
Is the heavy-traffic symbol important for the theory test and the practical driving test?
Even though you may be asked about the markings for heavy-traffic lanes on both the theory test and the practical driving test, this is not one of the most important markings. The heavy-traffic lane symbol is not used very often on the road. As long as you know that you cannot use the lane unless your vehicle has a permitted total weight above the limit shown, you will do fine.
What is the heavy-traffic symbol?
The heavy-traffic symbol is a marking on the road that shows where a heavy-traffic lane begins and continues. It is used to make clear that the lane is reserved for heavy vehicles. The symbol is placed at the start of the lane, repeated after intersections, and can also be used on the stretch between intersections when needed. This makes it easy for drivers to understand which lanes are intended for heavy traffic.

There should also be a heavy-traffic sign placed before this road marking.

Can I use the heavy-traffic lane?
No, as a rule you cannot use the heavy-traffic lane if you are driving on a class B license. The lane is reserved for vehicles with a permitted total weight above the limit shown. Even though it is technically possible if your vehicle meets the weight requirement, this is unlikely to be the case for ordinary passenger cars.
