The youth hostel sign is not among the most central signs you need to know for the theory test or the driving test. It can come up as a question on the theory test, but it is not among the most common. During the driving test it is unlikely you will be tested on the sign directly, but it can be useful to know – especially if you are planning overnight stays on longer trips.

When do you encounter the youth hostel sign?
You can see the youth hostel sign on:
- Motorways and expressways – usual advance warning up to 2 km before the exit.
- National and county roads – advance warning 0.5–1 km before the exit to the youth hostel.
- Major tourist routes – where several lodging options are clustered in the area.
Other tips
Service signs show offerings right by the road, while direction signs show the way to places a bit farther away. The youth hostel sign can be combined with symbols for information, gas station or restaurant on the same sign. The distance indication is always at the bottom of the sign, and the size can vary.
