The viewpoint sign
Is the viewpoint sign important for the theory test and driving test?
The viewpoint sign is not among the most central signs you need to know for the theory test or the driving test. It can come up as a question on the theory test, but it is not among the most common. During the driving test it is unlikely you will be tested on the sign directly, but it can be useful to know – especially if you are driving on tourist routes or in areas with scenic stopping places.
What is the viewpoint sign?
The viewpoint sign is a brown service sign with a white border and white symbol 640.20. It shows a mountain with an observation tower and tells you there is a parking lot next to the road, often with a path to a viewpoint.
When do you encounter the viewpoint sign?
You can see the viewpoint sign:
- Along tourist routes – where the road offers scenic stopping places.
- Before parking lots – that lead to paths and viewpoints.
- On steep mountain roads – to indicate views over valleys or fjords.
What happens if you miss the viewpoint sign?
You may miss a safe stopping place with a great view. On the theory test you can also lose points if you do not know the viewpoint sign and what it means.
Why is the viewpoint sign useful?
The viewpoint sign helps you find safe parking spots by the road with panoramic views. It makes the trip more pleasant, provides better overview and prevents people from stopping in dangerous places.
