Pedestrian symbol
Is the pedestrian symbol important for the theory test and the practical driving test?
The pedestrian symbol is usually not very central to the theory test or the practical driving test. It marks where pedestrians belong in the traffic system, but has no regulatory effect.
What is the pedestrian symbol?
The pedestrian symbol is a symbol that may be used as a supplement to traffic signs, particularly to sign 518 "Footpath" and sign 522 "Combined footpath and cycle path". It may also be used on pavements connected to cycle paths. The pedestrian symbol marks where pedestrians belong in the road system, but has no regulatory effect.

Where is the pedestrian symbol used?
The pedestrian symbol is used to make clear where pedestrians should travel. This may be on footpaths, combined footpaths and cycle paths, or pavements connected to cycle paths. The symbol is often used to improve understanding of the traffic system, especially where there may be doubt about which areas are reserved for pedestrians. One example is cycle paths with an adjoining pavement, as shown below.
