Learn Norwegian road markings for the theory test!
Guide line
Are guide lines important for the theory test or the practical driving test?
Guide lines are not something you need to know much about to pass the theory test or the practical driving test. But if you want to learn more about how roads are marked and how traffic flows, it can be useful to have some familiarity with them.
What does a guide line look like?
A guide line looks very similar to a lane line, except that the line is in intersections or roundabouts and is used to show drivers where to go. The image below shows an example of such a guide line.

What color are guide lines?
Guide lines can be both yellow and white. As with lane lines, they will be yellow if they separate traffic going in opposite directions or if they are an extension of the center line.
What is a guide line?
Guide lines are there to make it easier to figure out where to drive, especially in areas where it can be hard to know which lane to stay in.
For example, at a large intersection where two lanes are turning left, guide lines help you stay in the correct lane. That way you avoid getting in the way of other cars, and there is room for everyone.
How are guide lines used at intersections?

In this image we see a large intersection where the two lanes at the bottom must turn left because of the arrow markings in the lanes. To make it easy and clear for drivers, guide lines have been drawn showing how each lane should be followed through the intersection. This means both cars can turn at the same time without getting in each other's way.
How are guide lines used in roundabouts?

In this image we see a roundabout with two lanes in and two lanes out. In such situations it can be challenging for drivers to stay in the correct lane. The guide lines in the roundabout are therefore used to show drivers where to go, so that they can more easily stay in their own lane and avoid confusion.
