Is the background marker important for the theory test and the driving test?
The background marker is part of the curriculum, but it is not the most important thing you need to know for the theory test or the driving test. Even so, it is a good idea to know what it means.
What is a background marker?
A background marker is a sign used in sharp curves or at T-junctions (an intersection with three roads). The sign indicates that the speed limit is too high for the curve, and that you must slow down before entering the curve. At T-junctions it is used if there are not enough other signs warning about the intersection. This sign also shows that the curve goes to the right.

When the sign is yellow and red, it is temporary.
When you see this sign, you must remember to slow down in good time. If you drive too fast, you may end up in the wrong lane or drive off the road.
