Marker signs

What do marker signs look like?

Marker signs are square and have yellow symbols on a black background, or black symbols on a white background. There are exceptions to this rule of thumb. Marker signs provide information about how the road continues or about obstacles on or near the roadway.

The sign shows which way the road bends through a long curve. It helps you see how the road continues when visibility is poor. This variant shows a left-hand curve.

Is the directional marker sign important for the theory test and the driving test?

The directional marker sign is something you need to learn, but it is not the most important thing for the theory test or the driving test. Even so, it is smart to know what it means.

What is the directional marker sign?

The directional marker sign is used in curves where it can be difficult to see where the road goes. It indicates that you must slow down before and during the curve, because the speed limit is too high for the curve. This sign is often used where visibility is poor, for example in sharp curves. The sign also shows that the curve goes to the left.

When the sign is yellow and red as shown here, it is temporary.

When you see this sign, you must remember to slow down in good time. If you drive too fast, you may end up driving off the road.
