Is the optional lane sign important for the theory test and driving test?
The optional lane sign is important both on the theory test and during the driving test. On the theory test you may be asked what the sign means, and during the driving test you must show that you know how to choose a lane correctly.
What does the optional lane sign mean?
The optional lane sign tells you that there are several lanes leading in the same direction, and that you may choose which lane to use. None of the lanes are compulsory, but you must choose before you reach an intersection or exit.
Where do you encounter the optional lane sign?
You will often find the optional lane sign:
- At traffic islands and dividers – where lanes are separated by a divider.
- Before intersections with several lanes – so that you know which lanes you may choose.
- On wide roads – where two or more lanes run parallel in the same direction.
