What do information signs look like?

Information signs are square, with a blue background, white border and a white symbol with text. There are exceptions to this rule of thumb. Information signs provide information about special rules — including prohibitions and requirements that apply on a particular stretch of road or at a specific location.

The lane ends sign indicates that one of the lanes is ending. If you are driving in the lane that ends, you must yield to traffic in the remaining lanes and change lanes according to the traffic rules.

You will see the lane ends sign at:

  • Roads with three or more lanes in the same direction – one of the lanes disappears.
  • Places where a bus lane, carpool lane, or heavy-vehicle lane ends between intersections.

When you see the lane ends sign, you must:

  • Look in your mirrors and check your blind spot.
  • Signal with your turn signal in good time.
  • Change lanes safely.
