What do information signs look like?
Information signs are square, with a blue background, white border and a white symbol with text. There are exceptions to this rule of thumb. Information signs provide information about special rules — including prohibitions and requirements that apply on a particular stretch of road or at a specific location.
Lane ends
Drivers in a lane that ends must change lane and must yield in accordance with the traffic rules. Signs 530-539 are designed to match the number and direction of lanes at the location. When used as temporary signs for road work, they may have a yellow background.

Yes. On the theory test you may be asked what the lane ends sign means and where it is used. During the driving test you must show that you recognize the lane ends sign and change lanes when required.
What is the lane ends sign?
The lane ends sign indicates that one of the lanes is ending. If you are driving in the lane that ends, you must yield to traffic in the remaining lanes and change lanes according to the traffic rules.
Where do you encounter the lane ends sign?
You will see the lane ends sign at:
- Roads with three or more lanes in the same direction – one of the lanes disappears.
- Places where a bus lane, carpool lane, or heavy-vehicle lane ends between intersections.

What do you do when you see the lane ends sign?
When you see the lane ends sign, you must:
- Look in your mirrors and check your blind spot.
- Signal with your turn signal in good time.
- Change lanes safely.
Frequently asked questions about the lane ends sign
- How far in advance is the lane ending announced? – At least 200 m on speed limits above 80 km/h, 150 m at 70–80 km/h, and at least 50 m at lower speed limits.
- Do I have to change lanes immediately? – No, you can drive all the way to the end of the lane, but plan ahead and signal in good time.
