Questions and answers about the driving test
How long is the driving test?
The car driving test lasts up to 75 minutes. The driving itself takes 55 to 60 minutes.
What happens on the driving test
The examiner starts by explaining how the test works. Then come the three parts:
- Getting the car ready, where you prepare the car for driving.
- The safety check, where the examiner asks you to check something on the car and explain it.
- Driving in traffic along a route set in advance.
On the way the examiner tells you where to drive. You must also show that you can use the car's driver assistance systems, and the examiner can ask you to turn some of them on or off.
When the test is over
You learn the result as soon as the driving is over. If you fail, you get the reasons in writing.
If you pass, you get a temporary licence that is valid in Norway until the licence card arrives.
Get ready for the test
For the safety check you can practise the check questions you may get. In the app you can also take a mock driving test. Read more about the driving test in the app.
