Questions and answers about the driving test
How many driving test mistakes are allowed?
There is no fixed number. The examiner judges the drive as a whole, but one serious mistake can be enough to fail.
How the examiner judges
The examiner judges whether you have reached the goals of the training well enough to keep practising on your own. What you do well or badly through the whole drive counts for more than a single mistake.
Mistakes that fail you
The examiner can stop the test and fail you when
- the examiner or other road users must step in to avoid danger
- you drive against a red light or break a sign or road marking that demands a certain action, like a stop sign
- your driving can cause danger or serious trouble for others
If you fail
You get the reasons in writing and the examiner's assessment form. It shows what you should practise more.
You must wait four weeks before you can take the test again. Next time you can ask for another examiner. If you have failed twice, you can demand that two examiners judge you.
