Questions and answers about the theory test
How long is the theory test?
The car theory test lasts 90 minutes. In that time you answer 45 questions on a computer.
How to use the time
90 minutes for 45 questions gives you two minutes per question. You can go back and forth in the test and change your answers until the time is up.
If you have answered everything before the time is up, go through the questions you were unsure of.
Extra time and read-aloud
You can ask for 15 extra minutes without applying in advance. Ask the test supervisor before the time runs out.
You can also have the questions read aloud in Norwegian. Ask for headphones when you arrive at the traffic station.
If you have dyslexia or ADHD for example, you can apply for an adapted theory test. You then take the test orally with an examiner in a separate room.
Before and after the test
Arrive in good time. At the traffic station you show ID, have your licence photo taken and pay before the test.
You see the result on the screen as soon as you submit. If you fail, you must wait two weeks before you can take the test again.
Practise the whole test
The free theory test has 45 questions like the real test, so you can feel how long you take. See also what the theory test covers.
