Questions and answers about the theory test
How many theory test mistakes are allowed?
You can make up to 7 mistakes on the car theory test. You need 38 of 45 right to pass.
How to work it out
The theory test has 45 questions, and Statens vegvesen requires 38 right answers. So 7 answers can be wrong and you still pass.
38 of 45 is about 85 percent, which is what the regulation requires.
You get no minus points for a wrong answer. Only the number of right answers counts.
A question you leave unanswered is not right. So answer every question, also the ones you are unsure of.
If you make 8 mistakes or more
With 8 mistakes or more you have failed. You must then wait two weeks before you can take the test again.
After the test you get an overview of your answers topic by topic. You do not learn which questions you got wrong, only which topics you should practise more. Read also about how many fail the theory test.
Practise with the same limit
The tests in Teorimester also have 45 questions and a limit of 7 mistakes. Take the free theory test, or read more about the theory test app.
